TAB FITNESS. You're always welcome!
The sun is shining and flowers have bloomed. Summer has begun. Beautiful weather, holidays and great outdoor opportunities. It is also a common time to fall off the exercise wagon. Don't worry, while you're at the cottage or vactioning somewhere more distant, remember how being outdoors provides many ops for a workout. Playtime in the park doesn't have to just be for your child. The monkey bars are great for you too. Hiking, biking, swimming are all great compliments to go with BBQ and ice cream. So keep moving outdoors. You'll be glad you did!

On June 22, Lolë hosts White Yoga at Fort York—the National Historic Site. A day of community, stretching and peace.

Balance Break
Lime and coconut poached fish

Recipe by Judith Kaufman
Serves: 4
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients:
1 cup coconut milk (can use lite)
1 long green chili, finely chopped (or jalapeno)
1/4 cup lime juice
6 kaffir lime leaves, finely shredded (or lime rind)
1 T fish sauce 200 gm firm white fish fillets (cod, haddock, halibut...)
.5 cup cilantro leaves


Directions:
Place coconut milk, chili, juice, leaves and fish sauce in a frying pan over medium-low heat.

Bring to a boil, reduce and simmer for 4 minutes.

Add fish and cook 3-4 min each side or until tender.

Add cilantro and serve

Try it with chicken as well.

Balance Break

People have been asking a lot about diets, cleansing, when to eat, how to eat, etc.

There are so many theories around this topic it is hard to say definitively what's right. Body type, metabolism, age and gender are all factors. Not every method works for every person.

But it should come as no surprise that the most natural, and healthiest way to lose weight is a balance between diet and exercise —it just may take a bit longer. Your metabolism has an opportunity to adjust to the change. Eating a lot of one thing or a little of something else does not work for everyone.

Once you make a choice remember that your body has to live with it for the long haul. If you go on and off of that plan your body will react and the weight may return.

But be careful, don't starve your body. The metabolism is a tricky thing, that gets confused (i.e. dieting, replacement shakes, etc). If you stop feeding it, it will hold on to whatever you put in if it fears it will not get enough later.

For women especially, as we age our metabolism slows, so retraining it to work more often is wise. Eating smaller portions more times throughout the day is the idea. Consume foods from the produce aisle vs the processed aisles. Not a complex idea; try it and see.
